John's $1,000 Cancer Fund Raising Drive

In September of 2010 my best friend, Brian Frawley, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer at the ripe old age of 44.  In October of 2012 Brian learned that all treatment would be suspended, so he made plans for one last fishing trip to Florida. Brian invited all of his good friends down to Palm Beach late November 2012 just before Thanksgiving.  Although Brian was in a lot of pain, he made sure the fridge of fun was well stocked with top-shelf adult beverages, and fancy cheeses with names I could not pronounce.   Everyone who visited Brian that week walked away feeling like they were his best friend-that was Brian’s way. On December 17th 2012, Brian lost his fight with cancer, leaving behind two Sons and a Wife.

During Brian’s battle with Cancer, he never complained or felt sorry for himself.  In fact, he lived each day to the fullest.  One day while in Hospice, Brian joked that the “F” in funeral stood for fun.  Brian’s positive attitude and sense of humor should be a valuable life lesson that we should remember to exercise each day-I do.

This October, I’ll be participating in the 2014 Marine Corp Marathon in Arlington, VA and chose LIVESTRONG foundation to help raise $1,000 for Cancer research in Brian’s memory. The Foundation serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action against this disease that is now the world's leading cause of death. These resources help people diagnosed with cancer face the challenges of the disease head on and live life on their own terms.

Please support me as I make a difference in the cancer fight through my participation in Team LIVESTRONG.
