I only knew Kate (Sepanski) Voth for a brief time, as we grew up in the same little town of Muenster, TX. I did not know, until the last year of her battle with Melanoma, that she was even sick. I only became aware of her fight through posts from others on Facebook. But the news hit me hard, knowing that the sweet, kind, gentle, and always happy and bright-eyed Kate that I once knew, was in the throws of this ugly and unforgiving disease. I immediately wanted to do something, but didn't know what. All I knew to do was to pray, and pray some more, and beg God to spare this beautiful and reverent young woman, whose life hung in the balance. But as the disease progressed, I knew God had other plans.

Kate fought with every ounce of faith and fight that she had, and she fought gracefully. She lost her battle with Melanoma in June of this year. I remembered reading that she had loved running, but was eventually unable to do so due to the debilitating effects of the spreading cancer and subsequent treatments. In fact, I came across a quote from her when she was asked before last year's race if she would like to have a team formed in her name for the Livestrong marathon. Kate replied, in part, "The absolute toughest part of this whole cancer bit has been it taking away my ability to run, which is my all time favortie thing to do. If there's anything I would want people to do in honor of my fight with cancer, it would be to RUN. Run, run, run if you can!!!"

This was the very thing that inspired me to do this marathon and join TEAM KATE! It's one way I can pay homage to the late Kate Voth and her valiant battle, but also keep her memory alive by joining and supporting her cause, which was to raise money and awareness for the aid of others battling the very disease that took her life. And all while doing her favorite pastime activity....RUNNING!!!

Please read a little further to see what the Livestrong Foundation is all about, and why your personal support is needed! We all know someone who has or is fighting a cancer battle, and this is a great way to show your support for them, as well as the millions of others out there fighting for their lives! I have set a personal goal of raising $500 in honor of Kate for the Livestrong Foundation. Please donate if you can, and help me reach my goal. EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!!

As part of Team LIVESTRONG, I'm making a difference in the fight against cancer. I've joined with other people around the globe and across different events to raise money for the LIVESTRONG Foundation.

The Foundation serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action against this disease that is now the world's leading cause of death. LIVESTRONG has become a symbol of hope and inspiration to people affected by cancer around the world.

The money I raise will support programs and services for cancer survivors. These resources help people diagnosed with cancer face the challenges of the disease head on and live life on their own terms.

Please support me as I make a difference in the cancer fight through my participation in Team LIVESTRONG. Thank you!
